Luntai Airport is a project of the "14th Five-Year Plan for Civil Aviation Development Plan" and one of the key projects of the Xinjiang Autonomous Region.
The construction of Luntai Airport will further improve the layout of airports in Xinjiang and enhance the local comprehensive transportation capabilities. It is of great practical significance in promoting high-quality development of the local economy and society.
In recent years, the construction of civil airports in Xinjiang has entered the fast lane.
In January this year, the site selection report for the Yining Airport relocation project was approved by the Civil Aviation Administration of China, marking significant progress in the preliminary work of the Yining Airport relocation project.
The recommended site for Yining's new airport is the Tukai Desert site, which is about 32km away from Yining City, about 42km away from Horgos City, and about 24km away from the border. The short-term flight zone level index of Yining New Airport has been initially determined to be 4E. It will be planned to be based on one runway in the near and long term. The runway length is initially determined to be 3,600 meters and 45 meters wide.
In June 2023, the site selection report for the new project of Xinjiang Pishan Airport was approved by the Civil Aviation Administration of China.
Xinjiang currently has a total of 25 transport airports in use, ranking first among all provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities in the country. This year, Qitai Jiangbulak Airport and Hejing Bayinbulak Airport will be completed and put into operation, bringing the number of airports in Xinjiang to 27.
